Question:

Sugar glider question!?

I'm wanting to buy two sugar gliders, because I've heard they're happier with a friend. My question is how should I go about getting two? Should I get a brother and sister? Two brothers or two sisters? Or a boy and then a boy from another group? Do they need to be neutered? I'm just not sure the best way to go about getting two? I don't want any mating!

  1. hi there, aha im nt the only one who likes sugar gliders! =] i love them, and 2 sister would get along, to boys might fight after a while even if they are brothers. But to sisters would be okay together, but if you want to breed them get a boy and a girl. thats what iwould get, it is so fun to see the little joeys and play with them!

  2. In many states they have regulations on what animals can be bred. If you want to breed them you may need a license. Its best if you stick with two females and sisters would probably be best!

  3. Boys in general make better pets ( have heard in sugar glider instances) The brother and sister or relation does not matter..because you dont want them to mate. Now, if you get a brother and a sister..you NEEd to get the boy neutered..because if they were to have baby's the joey could be deformed and have birth defects. You are right, they are happier in pairs. I reccomend getting a boy and a girl. I have a boy and a girl.. Shiloh and Joey...and they are great. I have the REALLY playful one..Joey..and the shy one that loves to cuddle and lay on my shoulder.. Shiloh. So then you have a mixture of both.

I suggest You get a boy and a girl....your breeder won't give you a brother and a sister..unless you ask for one. So just ask for a male and a female..get the male neutured though...no matter what. Even if you get two males, get them both neutered. Because inact males (non neutured males) smell a lot worse!

  4. Males (that are not neutered) from different colonies that are not related are more likely to fight and not get along. (Plus if you don't get your males neutered, then they do smell more and are slightly more harder to bond with).

Before you buy your glider, look at plenty of pictures of how to distinguish the two sexes, when I got mine, the seller lied about the genders. This might lead to breeding/inbreeding.

Have fun with your soon o be pets :)

  5. Okay, well if you get two of the opposite s*x, regardless of how they are related, they will reproduce. You will need to have one if not both neutered/spayed obviously.

It's always a lot easier to get two that already know eachother. There is no point in getting two unrelated ones because you will need to spend time introducing them, since you cannot just put them together like that. Two siblings will know eachother, and comfort eachother when you bring them home.

You can get two siblings of any s*x. Males or females get alone together as far as I know it.
