  1. I really wouldn't worry about sugar. I'm vegan and I just focus on avoiding meat, eggs, and dairy products. Most of the vegans i know will eat sugar; they don't consider it a non-vegan product.

Personal purity isn't the goal of veganism... veganism is just a means to the end of reducing animal suffering. In my opinion, it's not worth our energy to concern ourselves with obscure animal ingredients that represent .0001% of a product.

See "How Vegan?" for a more detailed explanation:

Also, I encourage you to read this about animal ingredients:

Anyway, to answer your question, it will just say "sugar"... not "refined white sugar."

  2. A lot of vegan foods will say "evaporated cane juice", High fructose corn syrup is practically poison, but it's vegan. I think if it says sugar, you can assume it's the refined white variety

  3. If your buying white sugar - it is refined - that's why it is white.  Sounds like you just want to make sure that the process that it is refined in doesn't include bone char in the process.

You can buy the organic white sugar - which would most def. not have any of the bone char that it sounds like your worried about within your sugar.  It also isn't as white as the other white sugars as there still is parts of the molasses on it.  Turbinado (sp. ?) is another name you might see upon such sugar.

  4. If it says "sugar", it is refined white sugar. Most processing plants don't use this method any longer.

Avoiding sugar that contains no animal products but has them as part of a process is similar to refusing the use of rubbers in car and bicycle tires or refusing to buy produce from a local organic farmer for transporting his produce in a truck that contains animal products in many of it's parts or because the farm may be responsible for unintentional deaths or insects or other small animals.

  5. You can buy organic, unrefined sugar at health food stores. I use it and it is basically sugar it just isn't stark white (its more of a tan and varies from dark to light). There is also evaporated cane juice and honey to use a sweeteners. Most ingredients just say "sugar". High-fructose corn syrup is the WORST though, so avoid it.

  6. i am not vegan but i think it would just say "suger".

  7. If is just says 'sugar' then you will have no idea what kind of sugar it is or how it was processed.  Same when ingredients say 'water' or 'flour' or whatever.  Ingredient lists are almost meaningless due to their purposeful vagueness.

  8. dear u can use good quality of sugar dont go for cheep one..
