Sugarinthemorning itching to go out and meet experienced females in the La Brea Stakes
Weismann and Clement’s Sugarinthemorning is pointed toward the Grade 1, $300,000 La Brea Stakes against much more experienced females, the like of Turbulent Descent and Tiz Flirtatious will add more flavour to the seven furlong sprint on dirt at Santa Anita
Park on 31 December, 2011, a race which is exclusive for 3-year-old fillies.
The California bred daughter of Candy Ride, out of mare Social Belle by In Excess, Sugarinthemorning has only one grade 1 appearance in her career, and that too in her second start as a 2-year-old when she participate in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante at
Del Mar on 4 September, 2010.
She was a big pace factor on that day but she wilted in the seven furlong dash and finished 6th to winner Tell A Kelly and runner up Wickedly Perfect.
This year Sugarinthemorning downed a couple of stakes races. She won the Manhattan Beach Stakes at about six furlongs on turf at Hollywood Park on 18 June, 2011, and then in her next start she won the Fleet Treat Stakes over Del Mar’s synthetic surface,
going over a distance of seven furlongs.
Ronald McAnally trainer 3-year-old filly is exiting a fifth place finish in the California Cup Distaff Handicap to winner Unzip Me at Santa Anita Park on 29 October, 2011, runn over a distance of six and a half furlongs.
Right now she is ready to go and her connections feel that the La Brea Stakes is a good option for Sugarinthemorning.
“She’s doing well, working good, had a good seven-eighths the other day (1:25.40 on Friday) and a good three-quarters before that,” the 79-year-old Hall of Fame trainer said Monday morning.
“But in my opinion, she’s in a little tougher than she’s ever been but it was the owner’s idea and he pays the bills.
“His name is Steve Weissman.” Sugarinthemorning ran over a mile for the first time in her career on 4 September, 2011, at Del Mar, where she gave her all coming off the pace in the stretch, nut couldn’t get a firm hold of Great Hot, who went on to win the
race in 1 minute and 35.88 seconds.
