I LOVE light blues with browns.  Like an aqua or sea blue.  Sky blues and turquoises would be nice as well.

try a warm color like pale yellow or wine red- don't be afraid to experiment with bolder colors- with the right trim and lighting, it can make a room come alive.

It all depends on what you want to get out of the room- do you want to be light and airy? try yellow and white. Do you want to be bolder and edgy? Try a red wall with white trim, or an accent wall that complements the rest of the room. Also take in to account motifs within your house- is your house modern? cozy? Victorian? new? old? What is the overall color scheme of your house? Ask yourself these questions to come to the right color.

When you think you know what you want, buy a sample of paint and test it out on a wall. a 3'x3' block or bigger is great to get the feel of the color. Don't be afraid to use darker colors- the boldness can be mellowed out with refreshing trims of white, and the deeper colors can be livened with overhead lighting (track lights are wonderful to have in a room, they can be positioned to accent certain parts, like artwork, and they can be aimed at corners to reflect and provide ambiance lighting).
