  2. Indian breakfast recipes are plenty.

    Indian breakfast dishes varies widely between South and North:

    In South India, the most popular breakfast is an assortment with several possible main dishes, such as Idli, Pongal, Vada, Dosa, Upama etc..

    These are most often served with hot sambar and at least one kind of chutney (usually coconut chutney).

    Breakfast is usually followed by a cup of tea or coffee, both made with milk and sugar.

    The usual North Indian breakfast consists of paratha breads with fresh butter, cooked spicy vegetables especially aloo sabji (Potato).

    Popular accompaniments include sweets like jelabi, halwa, and sweetened milk. In urban areas, omlettes and simple butter sandwiches are becoming a popular breakfast food.

  8. Idli...its delicious, its healthy...good for everyday breakfast too. North indian dishes esp parathas are not the healthies to eat in the AM.

  9. there r many items - upma, halwa, uttapam, different types of parathas (like aloo or gobi ka paratha), idli & sambar, dosa etc & all should be served hot.

  11. Upma is good if one needs to cut down on the oil and calories. Its possibly the healthiest. Even poha is good.

In Hyderabad we make Kitchri(yellow rice with dal) with keema or khageena(egg salan), thil ki chutney (sesame and peanut chutney) and kata(imli water with raw onions and fried zeera, hara masala) with pappad. This is the usual Sunday breakfast in Hyderabad...if you are vegetarian then I guess you would just omit the keema and khageena salan :)

    WARNING: After eating this for breakfast expect to take a very looooong nap, lol

    South Indian dishes Idli chatani, Dosa, Uttappa, Curd rice etc

    North Indian: Paratha with potato, cabbage etc, Gajar ka halava, Samosa, Jilebi

    According to me an ideal universal  breakfast is Bread butter some fruit jam and boiled/fried eggs and yeah break fast is incomplete without tea.lol!

    It should be light like breakfast.

    & I think that after eating all the heavy stuff, u shd sure have some fruit or atleast fruit juice .... !!

    Tea, milk & coffee notwithstanding !!!!

    PS : A healthy option is 'oats' .....

    its discovered that it lowers the cholestrol levels .... so do give it a try ~~~!

    Also, "dalia'' cd be a good substitute.... indian style !!!

    Aloo parota & yogurt - main course;

    Fruits - pappaya, banana, apple etc;

    finish it off with coffee in the South or Chai in rest of the country.
