  1. Some simple art supplies should keep them entertained for a long time.  Make sure you have on hand some or all of the following:  tons of paper (both white and colored), crayons, markers, colored pencils, washable paints, stickers, stamps, stencils, etc.  Doing art seems to relax children and improves their attention span.  You are also encouraging them to develop fine-motor skills which will help them learn to hold a pencil and to write in the future.  You can get involved by writing simple words and phrases to go along with their pictures and then reading them aloud like a story.

Make sure you have a safe place for the children to run around outdoors.  Maybe invest in some equipment such as a slide, ladder, tricycle, or other gross-motor activity.  If it's warm in the summer a small wading pool might be fun.

I'm not sure how it is where you live, but you could try to take the children on an outing a few times a week to places like a park, zoo, amusement park, nature reserve, beach, river, etc.

    Have a great summer!

  2. Go outside and make soup.  Get a bucket of water and let them add pine needles, rocks, sand, leaves, flowers and stir it with a stick.  Keep telling them that this is going to be delicious. Pretend you are trying some.  Give the soup weird names like magic delicios soup.  Also rocks can be meatballs etc.

Let them paint the house with a bucket of water and paintbrush

Play jumping over the river.  Place two ropes on the ground parallel to each other.  Each time they jump over the river separate the rope further.  Let only one at a time though.

    Painting rocks with poster paint

Let them each have a turn picking a spot in the yard to have a picnic.

Jumping through a sprinkler with rain coats on an a umbrella, You hold the umbrulla

    Hiding walnuts for squirrels

Playing petstore with stuffed animals.  Pretend you are a customer.  Ask them questions.  Does this dog bite?  I want a really cute pet can you help me find one?  What does it eat?
