Question:

Suggested itinerary for Nepal travel?

I've got 10 days to travel around Nepal in June. Can anyone provide a suggested itinerary which includes 2 to 3 days' trekking? I'm aware with only 10 days' time, I wouldn't be able to go very far from Kathmandu, but I think going to 2 to 3 tourist spots would still be possible? And do you recommend any 3 to 4 star hotels / decent guest houses (esp in Kathmandu)?

  1. You could do some sight seeing in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan. Spend a night in Nagarkot or Dhulikhel. If you stay in Dhulikhel, you could hike to Namobuddha from Dhulikhel which takes around 3 hours for each way.

You could fly to Pokhara and spend some time there. You could also consider short treks in Pokhara like the Fewa lake circuit (one day) or Ghachok trek (two days). You could boat, see caves and museums in Pokhara.

June may not be the perfect time to visit Nepal but you could make your trip worthwhile by planning trips carefully. You could also consider hiring a guide to take you around.

  2. June is the rainy season. So, you decided to visit at a wrong time.Fly to Pokhara and enjoy.Short treks from there. There are plenty of 3/4 stars hotels in both the cities.May I suggest the Hotel Everest in Kathmandu and the Fish Tail in Pokhara.

  3. Out of your 10 days, you want to trek for only 2-3 days. I would suggest you to go to Ghandruk. It is a popular trekking destination (way to Annapurna Base Camp) situated towards the northwest of Pokhara at an altitude of 2012 meters above sea level. Ghandruk is known for second largest Gurung village settlement in Nepal and beautiful mountain view of Annapurna range (Annapurna South, Machhapuchchhre and Himalchuli).

In Ghandruk you can also see the Traditional Gurung Museum which displays the local traditional clothes and equipment used by the Gurung people.

About the facts of Trek, it is graded as 'moderate' and it is a trek of about 4-6 hours from Nayapul (up to where you can get vehicle from Pokhara). Maximum height you can reach in this trek is around 2000 meter. Hence, the trek itinerary will be:

Day 1: Take bus or taxi from Pokhara to Nayapul. Start walking from Nayapul and reach Ghandruk for night stay.

Day 2. Enjoy the sun rise view, mountains, visit the village, museum...

Day 3. Return back to Nayapul and get vehicle to Pokhara.

If you can not do this treak, you can visit three main cities in Kathmandu Valley (Kathamandu, Patan and Bhaktapur Durbar square) and also go to Nagarkot or Dhulikhel to see the mountains view. There are many hotels in Kathmandu depending upon your budget. Among the 3-4 star hotels, Everest, Radisson, Shangrila, Himalaya, Mountain, Ambassador are good ones. If you want to live at the heart of tourist area, Kathmandu guest house at Thamel is good one.
