I plan to plant some climbing plants right in front of the house's main door. So, It can create a kind of 'green arch' around the door. Is Star Jasmine a good choice? Any other suggestions?

thanks

  1. Clematis are always nice and come in many different varieties.  Some bloom in spring while others are mid summer and late summer/autumn.  There is also trumpet vine which is very easy to grow, and at least around my parts (the midwest) is almost seen as a weed because it is so prolific, but it has great little tube like flowers in yellows/oranges/reds/pinks.  This blooms in mid to late summer.

There's also honeysuckle which performs similar to trumpet vine but isn't as intrusive.

You can also look into climbing roses, however look around for ones with the longest blooming periods to get the most out of it.

  2. It's a good one. Tough, fragrant and can take a bit of a dry spell. Not as messy as some other vining plants. It has a nice contrast between the glossy leaves and white flowers. Watch for aphids on the new growth though, other than that pretty pest free.
