Question:

Suggestions Needed for "Best Guessing" on the ASVAB?

I have been studying for the ASVAB as much as possible. Mostly focusing on Math since that is my weakest subject. I scanned through the Mechanics and Technical sections a few times, but in all honesty, I know very little about these things.

When I am taking the ASVAB, does anyone have a suggestion on how to tackle these sections? Of course I would do my best to answer the question and see if I know the answer or can figure it out by elimination, but what if I just have NO CLUE.

  1. LOL Leave it to someone who actually wants to be in the military having to guess on an aptitude test!  How typical!

  2. definatly use the process of elimination.  if you have NO CLUE, choose the answer that "looks" the best.  whatever you do, DON'T LEAVE ANY BLANK.  it's not like the ACT or SAT where you're graded on the ones you answer.  you have at least a 25% chance of getting it right as opposed to no chance when you leave it blank.

good luck and don't listen to the other people who don't care enough about their country to defend it, and want to bash on the people that do.  let me commit suicide or cut themselves...whatever it is they want to do.  we're the ones fighting to give them those options and the freedom to bash us.

  3. What good does guessing an answer do you?  Do you want to get a high score or an accurate account of your knowledge compared to others?  Are you taking it to get into the military? Study is a great answer. However, If you have no idea the answer to a question, don't answer it! You won't want to be put into a job based on a guess especially one that is out of your range.

  4. Good for you. I am glad to see someone who is trying to reach for a goal. I think it is great that you want to serve your country and care enough to study.

Don't be discouraged by nay-sayers. They aren't happy until everyone else is unhappy.

I was a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy. The math and mechanics were hard for me too. The best thing is look at the manual and see if you can read the examples.

If you have any family or friends who have taken it maybe they can help or maybe ask a teacher. You can even ask the recruiter.

If you made it through EMT school then you should do fine.

It is important to answer all the questions even if it is a guess...I don't think you are dumb or anything like that...The reason you guess is because it is graded on the number of correct answers.  I wouldn't try to guess all the questions (I am sure you are not talking about that anyway.)
