Hi. Looking for a new car. My 01 Altima is a great car but lately even after adjusting my seat my right knee and lower leg hurt after 1+hr drives. I drive 1 to 1.5 hrs each way in stop & go traffic. I do stop about 1/3 to 1/2 way thru the commute to "stretch" it and that helps a bit. I have also adjusted the seat but I feel I am pressing the gas and brake with my toes and its is difficult to adjust radio/air/etc. I do not have this issue in my hubby's truck. So I'm thinking an small SUV/crossover. I have tried CRV, Rav4, SantaFe, Rogue. Out of those I really liked the CRV but some have noted that long drives the seats are unbearable. I also have a budget of $23k or less. Suggestions or is there a sedan I might want to look at instead? I actually dont want to deal with another car payment, but looks like I'll have to bite the bullet.

  1. If you wouldn't mind going used I'd highly reccomend a Ford Five Hundred/ Mercury Montego.  They were made to target the older population so you know they're three things- big, roomy and comfortable.  (I'm 18 and considering getting one just for the space.)  They have a multitude of seat adjustments and you have a very commanding seating position.  They are also available with all wheel drive (which doesn't really hurt the gas mileage that much).  If you wanted to buy new, however, I'd check into the new Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable.  They're pretty much the same thing as the Five Hundreds and Montegos but are a little more stylish (also for $23000 you may only be able to get a base model with few if any options).

  2. I have similar problems, I have knee, back and leg problems.

I own a Toyota 4Runner SR5 1990 model and I could drive it all day. It is manual, and my knee does get sore after some city driving, however, my back is fine.

Maybe you should look at a later model 4Runner, in a auto. Also, look for a SR5, as they have more comfortable seats. Cruise control would be good for you as well.

    Good luck with it.
