Question:

Suggestions for a skimboard?

I want to take up skimboarding and I just need a few opinions to help me pick a board. I considered getting a Victoria Woody but I also want to transition to hitting some waves once i get skimming down. My price range is under 120 and if it helps; I never taken up surfing (been quite a few years since I even touched one.) I skate with longboards almost everyday and snowboard once in awhile. Currently I am considering the Zed Insight 99 although I am not crazy about its graphic design. Also I am 150Ibs (expecting to be at least 160 after training for other activities) and around 5'7.

  1. I think the victoria woody is more of for starters.  I think you should head on over to a surf shop.  They will help you out with what kind to get and which is best for what kinds of things you plan on hitting.

    Have fun :]]

  2. i'd say go for a large zap wedge, its a great wave to learn the feel of skimming, and you can get into the waves with them to an extent without dropping the big bills down.

-why not a woody or foamie?

-the way i see it, they are a waste of time and do not contribute enough to the progression of a skimmer to be a useful step, they can be skipped without any repercussions

-why a wedge is a good idea besides for the how it rides?

-there are always ppl looking for beginner boards and the wedge is a classic in that area, when you get good enough to want to drop 3-400 dollars on a carbon board you can always sell your wedge for 75-100 dollars

    hope this helped

  3. Don't get a woody. If you have know anybody with an okay used board, ask them if they area selling.
