My friend and I are singing "In Whatever Time We Have" from The Children Of Eden together for a competition. We want to act really well, so any suggestions on what we do?

  1. practice the song that you are singing .

  2. IWTWH is an extremely powerful song. Break a leg.

Take some time to act out the song as if you are performing a dialogue with your friend- direct some of the lyrics towards your friend and some towards the audience, etc. We can't tell you exactly what to do unless we're right there in the room with you. Then combine those elements into your vocal performance- it takes a lot of hard work. See if you can get a director or someone with acting experience to give you feedback once you've decided what to do.

Remember to sell your face, and you can do blocking since it's for a competition, so be sure to plan some rather than just standing there.  Reading over the lyrics right now, I'm seeing a lot of clasping hands with your friend towards the climactic point of the song, for example. Be sure to decide on a climax and stick to it.

Trust each other- that's the most important thing to do in a duet. And listen to what your partner is saying and react to it.

  3. Listen to the lyrics and respond to it as you would if making a speech. Such as, with "I don't give a d**n for the thunders of fathers, Come h**l or high water whatever they do" you can shake your fists.
