I can sing alto/soprano - am looking for a powerful ballad from something somewhat recent (within the last 20 years or so). Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

  1. I would recommend "I Know Things Now" from INTO THE WOODS. It's for a strong, belting alto/soprano.

I would also try "People Will Say We're In Love" from OKLAHOMA!

And, if you want to get REALLY recent, you can sing "So Much Better" from LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL. The last note is a killer, though. It's made especially for a very stong belter, so if you're looking for a powerfeul song to showcase your abilities, I'd go with that one.

  2. how about suddenly seymour from little shop of horrors?

  3. into the woods - one of the songs little red riding hood sings.

  4. check out songs from,

    Mama Mia,

    Oklahoma,

    Hairspray,

and depending on your age phantom of the Opera but

if your under the age of 16 don't do phantom of the opera.

  5. Sing something you know is well-known, but not overused. Stay away from Wicked, Annie, etc. It gets old after everyone has auditioned with it. If you want it to be a bit more modern, I would recommend something from Mamma Mia, Hairspray maybe, Rent's always a good option. I think your best shot would actually be something older, but it really all depends on what you are auditioning for. Take in consideration the parts available, is the part you desire a strong singer, or a softer soprano?
