My late father's wish was to have his ashes scattered in the Lake District. He died April 14 in USA and the family plans to travel to fulfill his wishes on October 1. We would appreciate lunch location suggestions. Friends coming from Blackpool and Dewsbury. Expect about 12 total. We plan for a ceremonial toast and lunch-nothing fancy. Bit more than pub lunch but not extravagant five-course meal.

He loved to bike to Grasmere and Windemere from Blackpool; therefore that location. Because we will have some "seniors" a restaurant with ease of access from parking is important.

Thanking you in advance for your suggestions.

  1. TAKE THEM to "lakeland plastics"

reasonable eatery and shopping all in one

  2. Jewel in the crown regarding Windemere is The Hideaway Hotel.

Stayed there with my 2 daughters who are most discerning regarding location and food.

    Location 2nd to none.

Food 2 die 4 and I have to eat in Mayfair for my job, so am used to top flight cuisine.

So your father requires a good send off.

If it were my dad I'd go there if that were his wishes.

    Not expensive.

    A total jewel.

Even if you don't go there I hope you give your pa a good send off.

The Lake District is so special and I am certain you will find somewhere nice to celebrate his life.

  3. We had a lovely family meal (lunch) for my mother's 80th birthday last year in a wonderful (but not expensive) hotel overlooking Lake Windermere.  Most of my family live in the area and this was the hotel with one of the best views of the lake.  We did a fair bit of research beforehand, particularly about whether the food would be suitable for Mum.  It couldn't have been better.  We had the lounge to ourselves before the meal and afterwards, when we had cake and champagne.  The access was fine from the car park.  I would recommend this strongly for you.

The hotel is Lindeth Fell Country House Hotel

  4. The Waterhead Hotel on the banks of Lake Windermere at Ambleside would be suitable..all on the level..nice outside sitting area next to the lake...reasonable food...have been a number of times....someone mentioned the Drunken Duck...very nice but pricey....

Big car park at the back of the hotel...check it out...about two and a half hours from Dewsbury....They seem to do reasonable room rates as well....some rooms overlook the lake.

  5. Try the Drunken Duck - some of the best pub food around!!

  6. Hi Britgrit, guess sky diving out of the question then.

Try a google of the Lake District.

I live in Nottingham, so not far from there, but it is not a place I go to.

My elderly mum n dad used to love the Lake District though (on holiday now they are, so out of contact, sorry).

God bless friend, hope it's a good one :-)
