Question:

Suggestions for decorating/furnishing a sitting room?

We have a nice front room overlooking the garden. It has a fireplace with 2 tall bookcases either side, and a long bench seat built into a bay window. It's about 20 square metres and opens onto a small music room.

I want to have it be a comfortable, welcoming room for reading and talking. NOT TV and not really mixed use, i.e. board games perhaps but not ball games.

It's been so many years since I had a room to furnish "grownup" style that I'm having trouble getting ideas. Do I put a desk in there? Or just a lounge suite? Why do I have this feeling there's some grand piece of multi-purpose, must-have furnishing out there that I don't know about?

Help please; I'm not stupid, just at sea due to 20 years of strictly pragmatic, basic family furnishing. All suggestions appreciated!

  1. figure out where in the bagua map your sitting room is. decorate according to feng shui color guide.

when re-decorating home, bedroom or any other room, always try to choose colors according to feng shui. in this case you will activate powers of 5 elements (water, earth, metal, wood and fire) and support all your lucky "areas" - this will attract love, romance, wealth, money, prosperity, luck etc etc

  3. How about looking into having a window seat built for the bay window??  That would look lovely.
