Suggestions for increasing attic ventilation with no eaves?

The older portion of my house has no eaves, although I do have a ventilator 12" sq on each end of the building. What should I do to increase my attic ventilation? We get over 1' of snow on top of the roof, even at the peak sometimes in the winter.

What are some good standards for roof ventilation flows, input and output vent sizes? Roof is roughly 22' x 32' 5/12 pitch.

  1. im a building contractor, not sure if i understand fully, but if possible stuff insulation between the rafters as far down as you can hold them in place with short sticks wedged between the rafters....consider also though if the top floor level is insulated it will stop heat travelling to the roof level anyway...if so there are energy efficient ways of heating the roof area electrically...

  2. i put a vent fan in the attic and it reduced the summer temp in the attic Drastically. I can actually go up there and not pass out.

it also helps cool down the living quarter quite a bit and the AC does not need to be on as much.

  3. A fan that turns on above a certian temp (Thermostat controlled) is the most effective. Install it on one of the gable end vents. Otherwise, make the vents larger.
