My son's school is having their 1st grade play and his class will be "ants". The children are to wear black shirts, black pants, and black shoes. Myself and 2 other room moms are responsible for making the 2nd set of ant legs (the first set of legs is their arms). I would appreciate any simple and affordable suggestions. We have thought about spray painting swimming pool noodles but wanted something that would bend a little easier to move with their arms. I thought whatever we used, we could attach it to the sleeve of their shirts using fishing line. We are doing this for 2 classrooms which is about 50 children. Thanks!

  1. Paper mache or use like a emply toilet paper or paper towel role stick them together and paint them

  2. You could use cardboard cutouts....or construction paper...just get a big enough piece that you need and color it clack or get black if you can find it... Its pretty simple and not that expensive, and would move easily.

  3. Black loopy chenille.  You can get it in any craft store.  It's kind of like giant pipe cleaners. To Make it stiffer and thicker than it is,  double or triple it and twist it together.

  4. Please consider my tried and tested and successful spider legs......

70 denier or similar black tights legs, stuffed with newspaper (light weight)

Attach black string between arms and legs to get a fluid movement.

My son was Incy Wincy Spider, all cardboard, black string, black paint, newspaper and old tights - and it went down a storm!!

I really enjoyed making this costume and it only took one or two hours - I wish I could help you!!

    Good luck with your project!!
