We're trying to find new solutions to minimize the volume of cars that don't have room to park on campus. Any suggestions like something done in your school?

  1. My college had a deal set up with the local city bus system. All students could ride for free. I used it quite often. Very useful for off campus students/commuters. Not to mention drunken ventures into town.

  2. yeah,walk!

  3. They have these programs at college campuses it which you can rent cars. The age limit is lower than you would see at most car rental places, it is 18. The cars are on-site at the campus. Zipcar is one of the company's. They streamline the process even so that you can sign up online and rent it for a few hours, a day, etc.. THe people who sign up have memberships and thus are able to unlock the door with the magnetized key at the time they signed up for online. Definetly worth checking out, rates are reasonable too.

  4. Why are ALL schools built to have a lack of parking ?  In elementary school at Otter Lake, Michigan the school was built with the parking lot on one side and the front door on the other.  Does this make sense to anyone ? At U of M/Flint the parking is so atrocious that one must park across the river to find a spot.  My answer is to have the park like setting that is up close, turned in to parking.  Like right up next to it, and in front of the door.

  5. Have a dedicated parking lot away from the campus and have a regular morning to afternoon bus schedule for students with buses arriving every 15 minutes or so.

  6. Try to get a wealthy alum to donate bucks for a parking garage.  This is a perennial problem most everywhere.

  7. I've been to schools that wouldn't allow freshmen to bring cars, schools that had huge parking decks, schools that had off-campus parking, and those that charged so much for permits only the wealthy could drive....

Most people prefer which ever method allows THEM to continue to park on campus...

  8. try buying more land and have an extra parking lot away from the campus

  9. Our college is preparing to build a parking garage. This means build up--not out, which is far more environmentally sound. Also, a place where bicycles can be stored -- covered and watched -- is an excellent way to ease the crunch. A lot more students would ride thier bikes if they had a good parking place! One school uses a couple of classrooms and has a ticket system. No ticket no bike. You get your ticket when you drop your bike off. OR a card with a photo of the bike and the owner--present to retrive your bike!

    Good Luck!
