Suggestions on Bikes

Ok, I have been riding bikes since I was 8 or so, and I didnt really stop until I was 13 when I got a BMX, sold that 3 years later, barely used. But now, I long for a bike and I have been renting bikes from a local shop, so

it is time to buy a bike! Here are some details;

Terrain : Roads / Dirt Track

Wheel Size : 26" (i think)

Frame Size : 22" (i think)

Price : Not too expensive!

And my height is 6", I know the leg length, and everything varies from person to person, but I think these measurements are right, I did a little research and for people 5'8 to 6'1 these are the average results.

And I asked the local bike renting shop and they don't know :P Small Buisiness I guess.

So what im asking, does anyone know of any good bike companys? I know the obvious such as Diamond Back and Ralleigh(or something).

Any Help would be appriciated.

Regards,

Calum.

  1. ride every bike you can try out from the shop

and make a decision based on what you like

and when i say ride every bike

    i mean EVERY bike

  2. I'm 5'10" and ride an 18" frame. 22" is WAY too big for you.

What you are describing is an "all terrain bike" (ATB). These are intended for riding on the road, and offroad on groomed trails.

These are generally available for between $250 and $700 depending on how the bike is equipped... go for bikes with NO rear suspension and try to avoid HYDRAULIC disc brakes. By the way, for your purposes disc brakes are not even necessary.

If you pick a price range you'll find that most bikes are quite comparable in quality, so you should generally ignore brand names. I tend to stay away from Trek and Specialized since they usually have one grade lower components than other brands at the same price. Raleigh, KHS, Diamondback, Schwinn, and Mongoose are all good values as long as you get them at a bike shop... the bikes at discount stores may share the same brand name but they are nowhere near the quality.

Whatever you do, stay away from dual suspension bikes, and REALLY stay away from bikes sold at discount stores such as Walmart. Instead, visit all the bike shops in your area and talk with them. Don't buy at the first place you enter- they'll be there after you have completed your shopping. Ask and learn everything you can. Don't fall into the trap that some shops place that some brands are better than others at the same price. If anyone calls a competing brand that they don't stock "junk", give them a dirty look then turn and walk out of the store. They are lying to you.

  3. Read www.bicycling.com,mbaction.com,bikemag.c... Not too expensive rigs?  Check these websites for sweet deals---www.cambriabike.com,www.wheelwor...  Good bike companies include Trek,Specialized,Seven,Giant, Iron Horse, Intense,Yeti,Orbea,GT and Kona. ( so many out there....)

  4. yeah as chris w said but you might even want to try a 24 inch bike because they are a lot easier to control for dirt and trials riding and you will probabley want to get one with disc brakes because the when the wheels buckle they will be very helpful. as for the diamond back i wouldnt recommend because i used to own a 26" diamondback bandito which didnt last long.

       HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
