Suggestions on how to find my cat? :(

Ok, warning, this is an incredibly long post, I'm sorry, but I miss my cat terribly and I need help!

My cat jumped out of my bathroom window on Wednesday night (6 days ago now). She had jumped out of the same window before, but my dog found her a few hours later sleeping next to the carburator in my car (which was parked right by my front door). I got rid of my car a few days before she got out this time though, so it's not there for her to hide in. She is really skittish and only really likes me, my boyfriend, and my dog. When other people come over she hides, and the very few times she stayed out she never let strangers go near her, and if they tried she ran off and hid. So, I honestly don't think she went very far, rather than hid, considering her personality. It's like she just always thinks someones out to get her. Here's what I've done so far:

-I've gone up and down streets and alleys (about a 3-4 block radius) shaking her box of food and calling her name, with my dog (cuz she's a beagle, she found her last time, and she misses her too....) I've done that for about an hour during the day and an hour or two at night when the streets are quiet. So far, at night I've found just about every other cat, but not mine.

-I put up lost cat signs with a picture at the local convenience stores and at the grocery store (I live in a small town, so pretty much everyone in town will see it) I would put them up on post but my town charges 50 bucks to do that.

-Reported her missing to the sheriffs department, to the vet, and to the animal shelter. The pound here doesn't pick up cats, so no luck there.

-Asked lots and lots of my neighbors if they have seen her and NOBODY has. One lady thought she did, but only saw the cat from the neck up and then it ran off, so she wasnt sure if it was mine or not. Anyway, gave out discriptions and my phone number, and all neighbors with kids said they would let their kids know too.

-Put her food out my by front door, with a chair and a cushion that she liked to sleep on, with a sweater that I wore that hasn't been washed hanging on the chair. I also hung a towel out of the bathroom window so she could climb her way back in if she needed to (the window sits pretty high, and she didn't get very big so I don't think she could just jump back in). I also put her litter box by the window with a fan sitting by it to get her scent out and help her.

-Also yesterday....this is weird but I though it would help.....I brushed by dog with a shedding brush, got all the hair off of it, and let all the hair in front of the fan by that same window so it would fly out (it was breezy out), so the cat might be able to smell my dog.

I know I more than definately sound like a crazy cat lady, I can't imagine what my neighbors think of me, but I'm so devistated!

1) Is there anything else that I can do?

2) Is it a good or a bad thing that no one has seen her?

3) Do the cat experts out there agree with me that because of her pesonality shes probably been hiding cuz she's terrified this whole time? Or do you think I should be looking even farther out?

4) I thought about leaving my dog outside on a leash (with her carrier for shelter) overnight, would that help? I haven't done it, cuz I'd feel bad for my dog.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do!!!

  1. Also put an ad on Craigslist.com - sounds like you did exactly what you were supposed to.  Make sure you put flyers in all of your neighbors doors (not mailboxes - that's illegal) within 4-5 blocks and on every signpost available.  Keep checking all shelters in a 10 mile radius (including private ones), just because they don't PICK up, doesn't mean they weren't dropped off.  Also, make sure all vets in a 5 mile radius have the lost cat flyer on their bulletin boards.  If your cat was hurt. maybe a good person took him to one.  Good luck!!

  2. This may sound an obvious one, but did you try a door to door search of your whole street and ask permission to check their backyards?

  3. Put up "lost cat" flyers in your neighborhood with a picture of your cat included- It may seem obvious and stupid but it does work!

Also- Ask people around your town if they have seen a cat that may look like yours. It might help.

  4. I really don't want to upset you more, I'm sorry, but I've heard medical schools and labs take friendly strays to do experiments on them. If you live around one or close to a big city, you might try calling these places. Best of luck to you and your cat.

  5. Try Craig's list, they have a lost and found section for pets. You can post pictures and it is free! Good luck with your kitty!!!

It could defiantly be a good thing you haven't found her yet, because someone probably has her in their house keeping her safe :)

Is she spayed? If not it could be a reason she has been gone so long. My kitty wasn't spayed and was gone for 2 weeks. My daughter was devastated, and we had a huge snow storm. I thought for sure she was a goner, especially since we lived on a busy road at the time. Well she came meowing at our front door two weeks later, and she was pregnant!

There is hope! Don't give up! When she does come back, if you don't have a collar on her already, i would make one for her with your number on it, in case she gets lost again :) The best of luck to you!!!

  6. yea she is probably hiding me and my frend found a kitten and she was hiding in a car and was terrified of us it took 5 hours to catch her, if i were you i would go threw the neighborhood and look under cars and listen for meowing

  7. DON'T EVER blow your dogs hair EVER AGAIN!!! if she did come by, she might think that something has been marking your house!

    1)pray 2 God

    2)bad thing

3)I had a cat like her and you might will never see her again.(sorry) she might long gone and scared to death! Since she doesn't like people, she might hide from them.

    4)Don't do that ether

  8. Indoor cats usually won't come when called when they escape outside, no matter how much they love their owners.

And often they don't go too far.  I'm assuming the cat and dog are good friends?  If just so-so, you might want to leave the dog at home the next time you walk around.

Is it the same time of year as last time she ran?  She might have climbed into the engine to get warm.  If she would do that again, it might have been someone else's car.  You might ask your neighbors if they can pop their hoods and take a look.

I wouldn't leave the dog outside.  The hair was a good idea, though.

While searching, I highly recommend you get a screen for that window.  And if you get her back, get her microchipped in case this happens again somehow.

I'm so sorry she has gone missing and wish you the best of luck.

  9. You have done SO much already! See what other tips people here have and just keep it up and don't lose hope! A scared cat can hide for  a LONG time...

  10. keep looking, I just had a friend of mine loose her cat almost the same way, but they ended up finding it at the neighbors house.

  11. check inside your house, backyard.. tree tops.. maybe shes stuck in a tree???

    check underneath cars...

    BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
