Suggestions on medication for depression

I have taken anti depressants in the past like Wellbutrin and prozac but I was irritable and anxious when taking them. Has anyone had good luck with any specific antidepressant? I am not bipolar in case anyone wonders that. Depression is something I have struggled with but with all the stress in my life right now I cannot seem to snap out of it. I get mad easily, am moody, irritable and cannot stand myself because of this. It is effecting my relationship with my husband, my children, immediate family, and my friends. I am closing everyone out of my life. Right now I take 50mg zoloft for anxiety but over the years I have had to increase it and now it doesn't seem to have any affect.

I just had a hysterectomy of the uterus due to 7 fibroid tumors and my gyno said he may have to take my ovaries if I keep feeling so moody? huh has anyone heard of this. Simply put I want to be happy. I walk for excercise, do wieght training too, eat good, but I have a terrible time sleeping. I take Lunesta but now that doesn't always work so I take xanax too, then at times I have to take benadryl just to fall asleep. I need help. Any suggestions.? I do talk to my Dr. both famiy and gyno but neither has any answers

  1. get off all that sh-t you are on and try St johns Wort but wait until you have weaned yourself off all that other.Start with cutting down your zoloft and cutting out the Lunesta and Benadryl.

    Walk faster,drink plenty of water and keep eating right.

I have been taking medication for anxiety and depression for twenty years and nothing has really helped until lately.  The last time I saw my psychiatrist he wanted to prescribe another "new" SSRI (Prozac family) but after all this time I had to express some serious doubt that this would actually help me. If anything, like you, I get more anxious with SSRIs and don't respond positively. I had to practically beg my Dr. for a different type of drug. Now I am taking imipramine, a tca, and klonapin for anxiety. I am doing better than ever. Admittedly there are some significant side effects--- dry mouth and constipation---- no fun. So now I've added laxatives to my daily intake but I think it is worth it.

    I am not a dr. and this is just what is working for me. Ask your doctor. My doctor was hesitant to go outside of the SSRI category but the last time I saw him he admitted I was in a more positive mental state.  

  3. Get another gynecologist immediately! What do your ovaries have to do with being depressed????!!!!

    My suggestion to you is that you look into any energy work: Reiki, tai chi, Chi qong, etc.... Yoga also may help. Good luck to you.

    PS. Isn't xanax addictive? Is it being prescribed to you by your doctor or are you bying it on the "street"?

Remeron is a non-SSRI antidepressant that works by evening out levels of neurotransmitters in your brain. Remeron has a very sedative effect so you'd take it at night. It is often prescribed to folks who have depression and anxiety who are not good responders to SSRIs and who have trouble sleeping due to anxiety.
