I got my ps3 at christmas, about a month later it ran louder, when it did it only stayed loud for a short period of time. The loud fan is the highest lvl the ps3 fan goes to, i've heard the lower lvls. lately the past few months my ps3 has been running on high constantly, it turns to high about 15Min's after playing. The room isn't hot. I also have a fan blowing on it to help it, but it still runs on high. the ps3 casing gets pretty hot to when I feel it. when playing at night with low volume, I hear it and its pretty annoying. Also the ps3 couldn't be venelated any better. There is tons of room around it. Any suggestions on what to do?

  1. check for any dust around the vent maybe? ps3s are usually really quiet maybe put it into a shop to get a closer look

  2. Hi, my PS3 too would always have the fan come on. This would get annoying, especially at night. I found that if you stand the PS3 up vertically, it is able to get more air flow, and the heat from the PS3 is blown out a lot quicker.

I also invested in a cooling fan from Amazon. It cost around £10 and is glossy piano black, so it matches the PS3 and looks rather nice too. It's not particularly noisy and does cool down the PS3 a considerable amount.

  3. Stand the ps3 vertically it helps the hot air move better out of the vents. also get a can of duster and clean the fan in the ps3, and do not point the fan you have blowing on it right at the PS3 it will blow dust and **** into your ps3 and make it become louder

  4. My ps3 did the same thing, used to work quetly then all of a sudden about a month ago started blasting the fan at top speed short while into play (had it since crimbo) 3 days ago the bd drive suddenly stopped recognising it had any form of disc in (mid play thru mgs4-gutted) it wouldn't even show the play game icon on the xmb. luckily i got a replacement under my 1 yr shop warranty. but still, i was not impressed.

I've read now that the best way to keep your ps3 cool is to stand it verticaly, i too have now invested in a ps3 cooler fan - 1 that goes on the front and blows air IN (its own power supply) - lots of contreversy surrounding these tho- read about them before u buy. (and it will invalidate your sony warranty) Also give your ps3 a "fan test-40gb only" (check utube) kinda wish i knew about this before mine died, the test  will clean out any dust inside. info suggests that the heat possibly warps something to do with the laser alignment casing/frame and thats a cause of death among some ps3's

  5. how long does it take for it the fan to be really loud? people say it can last up to 15 hours and not overheat usually when it overheats the fan gets really loud. maybe the vent got dusty try blowing at it and finally if that doesn't work maybe something on the inside is clogging it.

    hope i helped

  6. dont play it 4 like 2 days then see if its normal
