Suggestions please for places to visit in Scotland?

Im thinking of visiting Scotland this Summer, and would appreciate any places of interest to visit, and a certain area to actually stay at.

Early stages of planning at the moment, so any ideas would be great!

I went to Edinburgh last year.  Edinburgh Castle, their museum, and Holyrood Palace were interesting.  Look up Marky if you go to Glasgow.

1st suggestion is to visit a shoe shop and get some good walking shoes - ditch those heals.

2nd suggestion - visit loch ness and camp out.

3rd suggestion - seriously think about staying there for good.

Edinburgh is good for good nitelife and decent craic! That would be my top choice! :o)

i trevalled up there from london and stayed in Aberdeen which was alright i guess, but the trein journey around the coast was beautiful, i suggest staying sumwhere like that. if u like scenic views then ull love it! :)

Surprisingly close to Glasgow are two islands every bit as interesting as Skye, Islay or Mull. Just a train ride from Glasgow Central station or from Prestwick or International airports, is Wemyss Bay (pronounced "weems") and every 45 minutes a ferry over to the Isle of Bute. From Bute there are little buses that go over a minor ferry into Argyll and other ferries to Islay or Arran. Do you like driving?

If you're driving there go up the A 68 for the last 60 or so miles to Edinburgh.

If you're not too confident behind the wheel, don't bother.

The fist bit, near Kielder contains blind summits, well scary.

The middle bit is beautiful, following the River Tweed.

The last bit ain't so hot, but it's only a few miles.

Scotland has many, many beautiful places. Lots of history and the people are very welcoming and friendly.

I am English but have frequently been to Scotland on holiday. Also my eldest son studied at the University of Edinburgh so that city is one that I have frequently visited.

If you like mountain scenery and castles then Royal Deeside is the place to be.  Also the Highlands are very beautiful.

If you want to see wonderful beaches and would say go to the islands around the Scottish coast and see the wonderful sights and scenery of the isles. My own favourites are the Orkney islands to the north.

White sand, miles of it, solitude and if it is a sunny day then, blue sea that could rival the Caribbean!!!!!!!!!!!! Also there are many really interesting places and features on Orkney itself.

The Churchill Barrier is one. Scapa Flow is where the Royal Navy had their war ships in WW2.

There is a little chapel built by Italian prisoners of war during WW2, said to have been made from whatever scrap they could find, including corned beef tins. Inside it is beautiful with lovely art work done by one of the prisoners.

Then there is Scara Brae, A wondrous Neolithic site,

I understand why you would ask about Scotland, if you have never been there. Scotland has some wild rugged scenery and maybe one would expect the coastline to be the same. In some places it is, but there are lovely beaches too. Take a look at these pics on the links I have found for you.

i actully dont stay in glasgow,just 10-15mins out side it in a place called kilmarnock.

but fort william (highlands) is amazing i went there once 4 years ago it was really nice http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl...

it depends on what you like, the city's or the country or the scenery fort william is the palce to be for the scenery.  and you'll find the best beaches around the coast which again are great there not like the stone sand stuff but nice and soft clear water.
