Suh becomes latest player to defend Lions actions during Sunday Night game fight – NFL News
The fallout from Sunday nights Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions game continues as the National Football league continues its disciplinary inquiries of incidents during the game with the Lions being roundly criticized for their heavy
handed tactics. Lion’s defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has become the latest player to defend his teams’ and quarterback’s actions during the game.
The feisty encounter was won comprehensively by the Bears 37-13 as they beat their National Football Conference North Division rivals with Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford having a bad day at the office throwing four interceptions
two of which were punished by the Bears with touchdowns from Major Wright and Charles Tillman.
The game was marred by a brawl in the fourth quarter as Stafford’s pass was intercepted for the third time in the game. As the play unfolded Stafford grabbed D.J Moore by the helmet and threw the 180 pound cornerback to the ground.
Moore was infuriated by Stafford’s actions and rushed back into Stafford starting the melee involving players from both teams with the officials ejecting Moore from the field. Moore is likely to be fined by the NFL as they deliberate over the incident.
Suh has defended his quarterback’s actions during the game. Speaking on Tuesday he said
“He had to protect himself, that's why he felt the need to get that player off of his body and protect himself. He came back after him and took it to a different level."
The defensive tackle is himself under review by the NFL disciplinary committee for his actions late into the second quarter when he hit Bear’s quarter back Jay Cutler. When asked about the incident Suh was equally dismissive of
accusations of dangerous play saying
"I like to punish the quarterback," Suh said "I like to punish running backs for them trying to make plays on my defense. Whether it's dirty or aggressive or whatever that may be, we're going to continue to play that way and make
sure we stand up and make sure teams don't run over us."
Suh made five tackles and a sack in an ultimately poor performance by the Lions. The Bears effectively shackled the Lions offense leaving them dependent on field goals and with the Lions Quarter back Matthew Stafford’s passing
erratic the Lions got steam rolled by their division rivals.
