Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited v United Bank Limited – President's Trophy, 2012/13 – Match Update
Superb centuries from Mohammad Hafeez and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972, followed by a 7-wicket haul by Asad Ali, saw Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (Sui) securing a massive victory over the United Bank Limited (UBL), by a margin of an innings and 216 runs, in their
first-class match during the President's Trophy, played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from November 8 to 10.
Sui kicked the game off by winning the toss and electing to field first. Hafeez (7-1-13-4) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abid-Ali-c41790 (82), and
skipper Shabbir Ahmed (12) – were able to reach double figures in the first innings, while 5 batsmen were dismissed on duck. Managing nothing but a slew of poor performances, UBL were all out at a paltry 165 on day 1.
Sui’s first innings stretched over three days, and featured a handful of impressive performances, with UBL’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shabbir-Ahmed-c89244 (24-9-49-2) and Rumman Raees (33-4-129-2) making feeble attempts to curb the tide.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ali-Waqas-c43621 (95), and after the latter’s dismissal, carried on seamlessly, joined
by skipper Misbah-ul-Haq (109) for a colossal 218-run stand.
Their partnership got the team up to 421, after which both batsmen were sent back to the pavilion by Rumman Raees. However, the damage had already been done, and on the third and final day, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Rizwan-c77230 (14*) at the crease,
Sui declared at 455 for 5.
The team then proceeded to follow up their solid batting performance with an equally impressive bowling attack. With Asad Ali (8-2-42-7) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samiullah-Khan-c88307 (8.3-1-28-2) on the rampage, UBL did not stand a chance, and underwent a complete batting order collapse
which cost them the game.
Fahim Qureshi (10), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faisal-Athar-c56702 (28), and Shabbir Ahmed (15) were the only batsmen who managed to register double-digit scores. The rest crumbled without putting up much of a fight, and once again, 5 batsmen were sent packing on duck. By the 17th
over of their innings, UBL were all out at 74, with Sui going on to win by a margin of an innings and 216 runs.
