Question:

Suicidal people are immortal?

Assume for one second that people are destined to a certain fate. John is destined to get hit by a bus (accident), Luke is destined to kill himself (suicide), and Matt is destined to die of old age (natural). Each one is destined to die this way, and cannot die any other way. Fate decrees it.

So if Luke is destined to kill himself, that makes him unkillable; an immortal; until he commits suicide. Nobody can kill him and he can't die from old age. Right?

  1. Fate or destiny doesn't work that way. No one is immortal, just not dead. Logic is never a counter to reality. It is artificial by nature. No future is certain until it occurs.

  2. that is so true!

    that is some good point

soo therefore, i think fate does not exist

  3. Okay lets agree with the theory of Destiny...so if he was destined to die at a fixed time/occurence then he was never destined to be immortal, therefore he is not, and the definition does not apply to him. That is like saying someone who is supposed to die in a car accident that hasn't yet is immortal up until that point. If hes supposed to kill himself then theres a date and time of that happening linked to it- thats if you truly believe in the definition of absolute destiny (no free will) I doubt his date and time of suicide is when he is 2000, but you never know! So, no, suicidal people aren't immortal in this theory, their death is only delayed until the final point.

I think the proper question your looking for is: Is this person IMMUNE to death (not injury etc.), up until this point?

  4. meh i think we create our future's... that theirs no such thing as fate. but thats a good way to put it i guess

  5. dude what is your problem? who cares about death, just live your life to the fullest and cross that bridge when its time

  6. If you assume Fate, yes, the rest follows.

But it's a very bad assumption, and even granting it

you further assume that you can know your fate.

Almost by definition, that is incorrect.

    Fate is unknowable.

  7. Luke has an accident and instead of dying at that point, stays in a vegetative state  in a coma for 30 years. He is neither living or dead, does this make him an immortal?

No one but the Fates and the Destinies know what each of these persons fate is destined to be, you are just assuming.

    No one lives forever.

Surely, you are not implying that we are all immortals until the day we die. To be immortal, a person would need to live past the normal age  and with technology being what it is today, a person would need to live past 125 years in order to even assume he was bordering on immortality.

  8. HARHARharharhahr

    i think therfore i am

  9. the only problem I see with that is the factor of free will, even fate cannot fight that. if it could then there would be no free will, because the choices you make wouldn't change anything.

this makes me think of that movie "final destination" where the characters cheated death (or fate) and it re-adjusted the course of events to catch up with them and they eventually die no matter what.

  10. I love the final destination movies.

I truly do believe everyone has their time. If you don't know who Sophie Delezio is you need to look her up on google and read about her. That is one little girl who was destined not to die! Christians would say it was a godly miracle she survived all that, but perhaps it was just her fate or her plan to survive.

and I was just about to say that 'i believe suicide is not fate' but then i realized that some people attempt suicide and don't succeed.... SO perhaps death by suicide is fate and inevitable too.

    Although about the immortal bit...

Isn't the definition of immortal 'never dead or never able to die'?? That makes no sense in your little analogy because Luke ends up killing himself and dying anyways. Nobody is immortal.

  11. No one ever dies. We are not our bodies.

  12. destiny and fate are theories - none proven

  13. This could be the best question I have ever answered. I have no idea, but lol.

Have you seen the Final Destination movies?
