  1. Islam's philosophy of life and the values that it promotes are based on a particular point of view regarding the life of this world. Islam holds the life of this world as a temporary testing time for humans.

For as long as one lives one is being tested. The end of this temporary life is not the extinction of man. A person shall then open his/her eyes in another world. That world shall be the place of reward and/or punishment for the deeds done in this life. The second life shall not be temporary in nature. The pleasures and pains of the second life shall last forever. In the life of this world, man is being tested with different kinds of situations - good times as well as bad times. The good times that come our way are not necessarily a reward and the hard times that we have to face are not necessarily a punishment. These are all primarily a part of the test.

    The Qur’ân says:

Everyone is going to taste death, and We shall make a trial of you with evil and with good, and to Us you will be returned. (Al-Anbiyâ 21: 35)

".........Nor kill (or destroy) yourselves: for verily Allah hath been to you Most Merciful! " (An-Nisa 4:29)

"......if anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land - it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind ...." (Sûrah Al Ma'idah 5:32)

For all the blessings that one enjoys in the life of this world, he/she is expected to be grateful to his/her Creator and to rejoice and proclaim His beneficence and providence. While during all the hard times that come his/her way, he/she is expected to remain steadfast in Allah's obedience, never losing faith in His wisdom and mercy.

The beginning (i.e. the birth) and the end (i.e. the death) of this test for an individual is controlled by the Almighty Himself. He gives life and death to an individual according to His own absolute knowledge and wisdom.

Keeping the above explanation in mind, it should be easy to understand that Islam holds suicide to be harâm (i.e. prohibited). Suicide implies lack of trust in God and a lack of faith in His benevolence, mercy, love, wisdom and knowledge. In effect, suicide implies lack of faith in God Himself. When a person commits suicide, he/she practically declares that he/she does not believe that God knows about his/her sufferings, and if God has knowledge of his/her sufferings, he does not care enough to relieve him/her of these sufferings.

A person practically declares that God has unjustly inflicted pain upon him/her, which he/she is not willing to bear.

A person practically declares that he/she does not have faith, confidence and trust in the mercy and wisdom of God, as he/she does not have confidence that God will end his pain in time, and therefore he/she has to end his/her sufferings himself/herself (by taking his/her own life).

Thus, in effect, suicide - in most of the cases - is a clear sign of negation of the faith of a person in his Merciful, Omniscient and Wise Creator and is therefore prohibited in Islam.

Some sayings of the Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) related to suicide: Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "He who commits suicide by throttling shall keep on throttling himself in the h**l Fire (forever) and he who commits suicide by stabbing himself shall keep on stabbing himself in the h**l-Fire." (Sahih Bukhâri Volume 2, Book 23, Number 446)

Narrated Thabit bin Ad-Dahhak: The Prophet said, "Whoever intentionally swears falsely by a religion other than Islam, then he is what he has said. And whoever commits suicide with piece of iron will be punished with the same piece of iron in the h**l Fire." Narrated Jundab the Prophet said, "A man was inflicted with wounds and he committed suicide, and so Allah said: My slave has caused death on himself hurriedly, so I forbid Paradise for him." (Sahih Bukhâri Volume 2, Book 23, Number 445)

  2. Just because Allah knows the Unseen...the future, in this case...doesn't mean we do.

We have responsibility. He said 'Do not kill yourselves! Your Rabb has indeed been Merciful to you!"

So, obey, or reject. That's it.

  3. 53:39 TO

    That man can have nothing but what he strives for;

    the prophetic teachings:

    deeds are governed by INTENTIONS

  4. Because we do not belong to oursleves but allah (Swt) and he has the will to take and give life.

  5. its not your life to take, Allah has created you and will take you away. Your whole life is already written, so Allah (SWT) already knows when and how you will die, whether suicide, murder, naturally... it has nothing to do with it being written down, its just something not allowed.

  6. Although He knows what sins we'll commit, and what we'll do and everything, we don't. We also have choices, and whether we make good ones or bad ones, thats our test.

My mother once gave me this great peace of knowledge: It is as if we are Borrowing our life from Allah (SWT), and he will take it back sometime. If we commit suicide, its like we are breaking something we borrowed. if we dont, we will return the life successfully back to Allah (SWT). kind of like that.

When I was younger, I always thought that Allah (SWT) controlls us. He can controll us, but He also gives us choices that WE make. He gives us two options: right and wrong. We have to chose from those two.

  7. God knowing the time of our death doesn't mean he has predestined us. If i know that you're going to get a new car on sunday, doesn't mean i MADE you buy the car on sunday. You're buying the car from ur own choice. Doesn't mean Allah can't make us DO something, He's the Lord and He could do anything, but instead Allah has given us free will to some extent where we can decide for ourselves whats wrong and what's right, and in the meanwhile following the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (s).

And yes, suicide is haram in Islam. It is true Allah knows when the person will die since both the matter of Life and Death are in Allah's hands, but taking your own life and not dieing of NATURAL death is one of the biggest sins in Islam and not an act of bravery. Only cowards suicide because they have given up the meaning, purpose and the test of this life.

Safwan (a companion of the 6th Imam) once saw the young Imam Musa (7th Imam) teaching the lamb he was playing with to prostrate to Allah.

Once when Imam was 5 years old, Abu Hanifa came to visit the 6th Imam. He asked Imam Musa (a.s.): "O son of the Prophet! What is your opinion about the deeds of man? Does he do them on his own free will or does God make him do them?".

The 7th Imam replied : "The doings of man can have three possibilities:

       1. God compels a man to do them whilst he is helpless.

       2. Both God and man share the commitment.

       3. Man does them alone.

If the first is true than God cannot punish man for sins he did not commit.

If the second is true than too God cannot punish man for he is an equal partner.

Then, we are naturally left with the third, that man is absolutely responsible for his own doings".

  8. in the koran predestination is well explained. all actions are predetermined by allah. when you are born , die , your wealth, and date of death nothing can change what allah has written.  your life is like a video being played. allah are ready knows before you are born all your actions and if he is going to send you to h**l or heaven. nothing can change what has been written.

  9. If god has written a date and time you can not commit suicide. Whatever you do you will not die. It is clear, If somebody commited suicide he succeded against the will of Allah. Then god is not that potent as you think. You can overwrite even god's plan or it means that god has planned that you will be commiting suicide. If that is the case you need not worry. You don't have any blemish on you. If I have to commit suicide according to god's plan I am free and blameless.

What is more reasonable is that nothing is written about you. You make your future as you live along.

  10. because the person himself is causing himself pain deliberately.. btw, good question

  11. the prophet Muhammad said do not harm yourself or others

  12. Freedom of choice, Allah knows everything, he will be witness against his own soul.

  13. We do have free choice. Fate and destiny are very complicated things. We do not fully understand how they work. But it is stated that human beings have freedom of choice and they will be judged on that.

  14. It is haraam to cause any harm to our own body.Suicide is also haraam.

  15. h**l period.

Allah SWT wrote the time they are to die by his will not theirs.

if they take their own lives then they have cut off the path.

Good question but it takes normal common sense to see that!

Where is your Shiekh and Imam? Where are you teachers? Man you people need a good smack! I'm going to give it to you too! Pathetic Ignorance..LEARN YOUR DEEN BEFORE YOU EVEN PRAY 1 RAKA

DO YOU UNDERSTAND.... OBVIOULSY NOT! This ummah is sick.... riddled with filth and sickness!

  16. you have a very good question...there i have never thought about this before.. i think it's because the mentality that a person like this has is tested during his/her lifetime yes it is haram but god wants to see if you prevent it
