can anyone tell me if attempted suicide is a chargeable offence within british law, does it carry a custodial term

  1. Attempted suicide was an offence until the Suicide Act 1961 came into force. A person attempting to commit suicide, however, might well find himself locked up under the provisions of the Mental Health Act as being a danger to himself.   3. No. It used to be but in it was changed in the 60's. It was decided (correctly in my view) that someone who was suicidal would not really be helped by being punished. It coincided with new legislation for mental health patients

    So like what you really want to do is to LOOK like you attempted suicide, but you don't want to succeed?

    Why do you want the attention? what is there to gain? Please for your own sake get some help.

    There are many cases where the attempt succeeds even when the person doesn't want it too... and that is the death penalty.

  11. It was a criminal offence until the 60s, but not any more. But no problem is worth taking ones own life.

  12. .    The charge would be endangerment or some ancillary charge.  Use of a weapon or drugs to inflict harm.

  13. No it's not illegal but the person can be Sectioned under the Mental Health Act for their own safety
