  1. In many states, if your employment is terminated without cause you may file for unemployment even if you live in an "employment at will" state. The best thing to do would be to contact your local unemployment office. Depending on the laws in your state, the circumstances behind your termination & the length of your employment, you may be eligible for unemployment compensation. Your unemployment office will review your application &, if they feel it's necessary, conduct a hearing with you & your former employer (usually via conference call) before determining your eligibility. Good Luck!

  2. Since employment in most states is at will, they don't need proof.

  3. I would say normally they can fire you for sneezing the wrong way, but they made a serious accusation about you using drugs. I would see what your termination papers say and go from there. If they put drug use, then they need to have a drug test to back up the claim.

  4. No attorney would even take your case.  You couldn't have made a big enough salary to make it worth their while.

Use this as a learning experience, and don't do drugs.

  5. Depends on what state you live in but most states are at will employment meaning either you or your employer can break the employement at any time. If they wanted to fire you because they didn't like the shirt you wore to work they could if they wanted to. It's kind of hard to prove things like this because your employees are forced to be loyal to the company if they want to keep their job so no-one is going to come forward on your behalf.

Also, where are you working at. I've worked at a pizza parlor and I would have thought it was a pre-requisite to smoke pot on the job to work in one.

  6. Probably not especially if it were true.  Most places have at-will employment, which means they can fire you for any reason they like.
