Suitable ground for Streedagh Lady in Durham Army Cadet Force Handicap Chase at Sedgefield
Trained by Mark Michael McNiff, Streedagh Lady can return to form on suitable ground at Sedgefield, where she is set to show her class in the Durham Army Cadet Force Handicap Chase on Thursday, September 06, 2012.
Owned by Terry McGowan, the mare performed magnificently last season. She made only a couple of outings, and was pretty impressive on both occasions. The daughter of Anshan signed out for the year after registering an excellent victory at Southwell.
In the hands of Derek Fox, the mare did an outstanding job to get the better of Alfloramoor and Misamon. It was a massive win for her, as she seized the first rank by a dozen lengths. Her supporters were hoping for an equally good show this season, but the
8-year-old has not yet lived up to the expectations.
Under her regular jockey, the mare could not make an impact on her seasonal debut last month. The audience at Perth saw her doing nothing special in the Racing And Golf Challenge Handicap Chase.
She made every possible mistake to put her in serious trouble right at the start. Despite a lot of effort afterwards, she was completely unable to become a threat to the leaders, and finished fourth on the chart.
The conditions were too testing to handle and as a result, Streedagh Lady was helpless. Even though she is coming off a confidence-shaking loss, one cannot take anything away from the skilful mare.
Sedgefield’s surface is a lot harder – a thing Streedagh Lady would love. On good to firm, the Mrs Kirsty Pinkerton-bred will face eight horses in today’s 2-mile 4-furlong event. According to the plan, the action will be initiated at 15:25 GMT. The champion
of this class 4 meeting will get a prize of £2,975.
Mr Goofy seems to be the biggest threat to Streedagh Lady. The 11-year-old is performing consistently this season. Trained by Michael Scudamore, the son of Rock Hopper was second to Ballybough Gorta in the Ashfield Chad Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Chase.
However, the margin of defeat was so big that it might have not given him any confidence.
So, the bettors should stick with Streedagh Lady, who will love running on Sedgefield’s hard surface. Good luck to all the horses.
