Sujeewa Rajapakse turns down the allegations of Sri Lanka Cricket being overdrawn
The Sri Lanka Cricket treasurer, Sujeewa Rajapakse on Monday rebuffed the reports that the richest sports body in the country was facing liquidity problems.
"There is no financial crisis," insisted Rajapakse while talking to the media reporters on today.
The governing body treasure, however, agreed that they are looking forward to the Board of Control for Cricket in India to send its team at least twice to visit the Island nation in order to manage SLC’s finances.
"We are not an institution with a daily turnover,” said Rajapakse . “In the next seven to eight years, two or three Indian tours would make our investment realise in a short time", he added further.
Rajapakse rebutted the allegations that Country’s premier cricket organisation’s current account was in the red. Explaining the prevailing accounts situation, the SLC treasurer said that the current account was currently being operated with a balance of
ten million Sri Lanka rupees.
Earlier it was reported that the salaries of the SLC staff for the month of May were delayed due to lack of capital with the organisation and that board had sought a grant of Rs. 22 million from the government.
Rajapakse confirmed that the staff wages were held up for only two days and that was due an administrative issue and not because of lack of finances. The SLC official also confirmed that the board had sought government grant.
"We are a national institution generating money, it is within our rights to ask for a government grant," said the treasurer.
Sri Lanka, along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup from that was held from February 19 to April 2 earlier this year.
