Sujjan Singh eyeing maiden victory at the Sail Open-Golf
Indian sensation Sujjan Singh is eyeing his maiden victory at $300,000-SAIL Open, which will kick off at the Delhi Golf Club on 22 March in India.
Singh sits at the second spot of the Order of Merit and is one of the finest players in India. He finished tied in fifth spot at the Avantha Masters, which took place last month. The 30-year-old golfer is thinking of returning back home to take advantage
of the course, on which he practiced in his amateur days.
The Indian said, “My goal is to keep my ranking, hopefully move up in it, and win on the Asian Tour. I have won on the Indian Tour so winning on the Asian Tour is my next goal. I think of going for a win each week, but I'm more confident this week
because I'm playing on a course which I'm more familiar with.”
The former squash player who took up golf at the age of 21 said that he was satisfied with the quality of courses in the region. He added that golf was finally attracting sponsors in India, which was a good sign. Owing, to the exposure, the number
of courses had grown and so had the number of tournaments in the region. India hosts two of the European tour events in collaboration with the Asian tour. The first one is the Avantha Masters, which was won by SSP Chowrasia few weeks back, while the second
one is the Sail Open, which is about to commence.
Moreover, the 30-year-old is satisfied with his game, as he savoured a strong finish in the Avantha Masters. He said, “My placing in the Avantha Masters more or less helped me secure my Asian Tour card for next season and that has allowed me to play
a little bit more freely and go for a win.”
The player who finished ninth in last years’ event will compete Gaganjeet Bhullar, Marcus Both, Pariya Junhasavasdikul and Jyoti Randhawa in the upcoming event.
The tournament is one of the flagship events on the Asian tour and marks an important chapter in the history of Indian golf.
