Sulcata-are they social animals?

I just got a baby Sulcata and was wondering if they are social...would she be happier if i got her a friend??

i have 2 one is 3 yuears old and i recently bought a new one both have a friend so i would recommended but buy the friend the same size or u would have a big problem

Sulcatas do not live with other Sulcatas in the wild. They only get together for mating.

Sometimes in captivity you can have 2 or more that get along, but they do not need a friend to be happy. There's also no guarantee that once they get bigger and begin to show signs of sexual maturity you won't have fighting.

You also have to take into consideration if you can honestly care for 2 when they get full grown. Having one 200 lb tortoise digging up your yard, eating pounds of food in a day, having to clean up horse size piles of waste, and possibly having them knocking down fences or part of your house is one thing, have 2 of them is something else all together.

Yes, but just be sure you are prepared to own 2 tortoises that may grow over 200 lbs. and will need large outdoor yards with reinforced fencing and a heated shelter.

Sulcatas can be social with people and other Sulcatas. I would get a friend for now keeping in mind they will live for 75 years or more and will weight about 200 pounds!  They are very strong and need safe, secure housing.  If you are going to get another Sulcata, get one close to the same size as the one you currently have. When Sulcatas reach 6 or so years of age, they begin to mature sexually. Often two males will start fighting about that age. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to determine the s*x of these tortoises at a young age. So, good luck there.   Also, as they grow so will your food bill. They need a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. They will also eat grass and grass (Bermuda) hay. The majourity of their food should be veggies and fruits.
