  1. For starters, you can scrape off some powder from the rock and rub it on fungal infections of the skin (such as ringworm). It works.

  2. Sulfur is used in:

    Gunpowder

    Matches

    Fireworks

    vulcanization of natural rubber

    Fungicide

    Insecticide

    Fumigant

    Fertilizer (especially in phosphate fertilizers)

    Sulfur compounds that are important:

    sodium bisulfite (paper manufacture)

    carbon disulfide (organic solvent)

    epsom salts

    sulfa drugs

Traces of sulfur are essential to life.

Most sulfur today is produced as a by-product of petroleum refining.

The average price of sulfur in 2007 was $40 per ton. In the US 3-5 million tons were recycled in 2007. The US is a net importer of sulfur, with 71% of the imports coming from Canada.
