Question:

Summer Assignment - Macbeth?

Okay, so I'm stuck. I mean, I can't find it anywhere. Well, we're supposed to explain the apparence vs reality of Macbeth and scene two is proving to be difficult, but this keeps poking out at me: Duncan: What bloody man is that? He can report,

As seemeth by his plight, of the revolt

The newest state

Problem is I don't know how to explain why I think that would be the correct quote to choose. I'm no good at explaining why I think things, only that I do think them. Then again, I could just be wrong.

I know of sparknotes, but they can't help me with this particular thing. Also, I don't need any smart-aleck remarks so it'd be greatly appreciated if none were given. Anyway, tell me what you think.

This is the scene:

Thanks to everyone who replies decently. It is much appreciated.

  1. Funny how the first lines of the scene "keep poking out at you."  You requested no smart-alec responses and this isn't one.   It's just a suggestion that you:

      1)  Do your own homework.

      2)  Take into account that the things that are difficult have the most to teach us.

       3) Think about whether or not "just knowing things" without understanding why will lead to good life choices.

       4)  Consider whether it's more important to have you way or feel good about who you are.

Mistakes, struggles, even being outright wrong is all part of life for all of us, no need to be afraid of it.  The one unpardonable sin is closing our minds and deciding on no effort.  I can tell you from personal experience the high from manipulating people is nothing compared to knowing who you are and feeling good about it,

Saying whatever it takes to get people to do what you want is like eating a Snickers bar for dinner every night.  At first, it's paradise but over a lifetime it makes you sick to your stomach.

It's America's #1, but insert your candy bar of your choice.

Read Scene 2 one more time.  Find the line about the servant.  Consider how the "hero" has behaved, how it's being interpreted, and how the reality differs.  There are also some great quotes you could use from this same general area.

Nobody understands everything but it's important to know and be honest with ourselves.  I'll never understand how someone can reject caramel and peanuts.
