Summer Front surged past his opponents in the deep stretch to take home the Dania Stakes
If horse races were decided on who gets out of the gate cleanly then, Summer Front, would have gone to lose it without a doubt, though breaking cleanly does have its significance in the outcome of the race, but horses with great composure and powerful will
somehow overcome the setbacks they endure at the starting line and turn the early disadvantage into the motivation they need to win the race.
Similar scenario was at Gulfstream Park in it $100,000 Dania Stakes at about a mile on 18 December, 2011, in a race which was exclusive for 2-year-old males when the Christophe Clement trained colt, Summer Front, severely stumbled at the start that left
him seventh at race’s mid-point.
“He stumbled pretty badly coming out of the gate and from there I just wanted to make sure I got him to settle in behind horses," Dominguez said. "The plan was to follow Finale around there thinking me and him were the two best horses in the race. I was
able to get him into the clear around the far turn and from there he kicked it in really well."
Ramon Dominguez after overcoming the stumble took Summer Front wide, that gave him time to recover but in spite of the wide trip, the Kentucky bred son of War Front, out of mare Rose of Summer by El Prado, Summer Front took on three Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile
Turf colt’s and defeated them with a last late burst to go 3 up in as many starts.
He covered the 1 mile in Dania Stakes in 1 minute and 35.57 seconds.
Owned by Thomas Moore’s Waterford Stable, Summer Front, kept his winning record intact and extended his record since prevailing in his debut race at Belmont Park over at six furlongs on 28 September, 2011, covering the distance on turf in 1 minute and 11.80
seconds.
He then ran over at a mile on turf in the King Cugat Stakes on 6 November, 2011, and easily passed through the field to complete the distance in 1 minute and 39.32 seconds while defeating Sinatra in second and Captain Webb in third.
