Summer Reading Books?

I start school in like 5 days, and I didn't even get to the third chapter of my first book. ( I have to read 2 ) I read really slow and I can never get into the book. Can anyone give me tips on reading faster? And help me to get really hooked on it?

  1. Going faster if you're not really into the book means you'll probably miss some of it. Basically, put in more hours with the book each day. How about 15 - 30 minutes a session, for 4 sessions a day?

To get through your required readings, you can try these:

    1. Take notes as you go. Write a sentence or two on each chapter, so you can just re-read your notes to remember what happened. You can also note anything that seems significant, and symbolism that stands out to you, but just a few notes - don't rewrite the entire book.

    2. Read out loud with a friend or two who have to read the same book (or a willing parent or sibling - grandparents can be very good for this). Each of you can take on one or two of the characters for the dialog parts and you can alternate the narrative parts. This can even be fun. You can stop and discuss at certain points to make sure you've got it.

    3. Skim the crib notes to get a sense of what happens. That will get you oriented to the book and may hook you into being curious for more details.

  2. What books are they.

My advice would be to go to your room, crawl into bed, and read. No computer, no television, no music, no cell phone - just you and your book. You should be able to plow through two books in five days.

If all else fails, there is always spark notes.
