Summer Soiree to take on stiff competition in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks 20 August
The Graham Motion trained 3-year-old filly for Team Valor International, Summer Soiree, is eyeing the $250,000, Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks as she ships cross country to participate in the Del Mar 20 August feature race where stiff competition awaits her.
The daughter of War Front would be looking to build on her scintillating win in the Grade 3 Boiling Springs at Monmouth Park on 25 June, 2011.
The 25th June race was run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles. Summer Soiree was making her debut on turf in the Boiling Springs Stakes and she looked home when she defeated My Sunshine Gal and Hessonite, finifhing in 1 minute and 42.89 seconds under jockey
Gabriel Saez.
The dead heat's winners of the Grade 1 American Oaks are also participating in the Del Mar Oaks.
Nereid and Cambina are likely to target to take on Summer Soiree in the Del Mar Grade 1 race.
Up the Time is also among the 13 runners, all carrying 122 pounds for the Del Mar Oaks. Up the Time recently became an upsetter in the Grade 2 San Clemente Handicap.
The 3-year-old Kathy Walsh trained chestnut filly, Sarah’s Secret, is also sizing up for the competition at Del Mar, while her connections' confidence will be sky high in light of her recent prominent win in the Grade 2 Honeymoon Handicap.
Bizzy Caroline will be looking to win a grade 1 race after her notable triumphs in the Grade 3 races while Star Billing, also in the Del Mar Oaks' line-up, will be looking to win a race of that stature after being good enough to win a grade 3 race.
Prior to the Grade 3 Boiling Springs' win at Monmouth Park, Summer Soiree has had 3 starts in the 2011 season.
Her first two starts were converted into two wins, as she kicked off the season with a nice win in an Allowance race at Oaklawn Park on 30 January, 2011, on dirt.
The race was run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles for 3-year-old fillies and her winning time was 1 minute and 45.13 seconds.
Summer Soiree’s second win of the season came in her second start, this time a graded stakes' race held at Turfway Park over at a distance of 1 mile on synthetic surface.
Summer Soiree went on to win the Grade 3 Bourbonette Stakes with the winning time of 1 minute and 38.75 seconds.
The next outing for Summer Soiree was at Churchill Downs where she was up against some serious competition with the likes of Plum Pretty, Zazu and St. John’s River, who filled up the first three spots of the race while Summer Soiree finished way behind at
10th in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks.
