Summer Stephen conquers Women’s 200m IM gold medal: Day One - 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals
Summer L Stephen of LAK conquered the gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day one of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals in Athens. The meet was held on Thursday, July 14, 2011.
The 18-year-old Stephen, who qualified into the final as the fifth fastest swimmer, presented a phenomenal swim in the final round to pocket the gold medal of the 200m event. She posted a time of 2 minutes and 23.18 seconds to win the title, while the fastest qualifying swimmer, Carly L Smith failed to sustain her top qualification spot and finished second behind her.
Smith won the silver medal in a time of 2 minutes and 28.54 seconds. She was followed by Melanie A Marga of Saint Petersburg, who was 0.23 seconds behind her and settled on the podium for the bronze medal in 2 minutes and 28.77 seconds.
They were followed by Micah M Lawrence of Swim Mac Carolina, who was almost one second behind the bronze medallist and completed her swim in the fourth place, with a timing of 2 minutes and 29.41 seconds. Just 1.45 seconds later, Rebecca J Brook of Live Y’ Ers occupied the fifth best spot of the race, as she completed her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 30.86 seconds.
Currie F Murch of Swim MAC Carolina appeared on the finishing wall as the sixth fastest finisher of the race, as she completed her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 32.84 seconds. She was followed by Megan M Kingsley of Myrtle Beach Rip, who occupied the seventh fastest spot of the meet, by touching the finishing wall in 2 minutes and 33.31 seconds. Lauren A Norber of AUB was the last participant to complete her four-lap swim, as she posted a time of 2 minutes and 33.47 seconds.
In addition, the arena enjoyed the tremendous swims of all participants, who tried their best to secure a podium finish. On the other hand, winners were awarded awards and accolades for their efforts, after the completion of the session.
