Summer class in Japan, and I'm worried they'll make fun of me cause I look different. help????

Question

Ok so I'm going to Japan next semester because I really like the Japanese culture, and I like manga and anime. I'm just worried that if I go there they might not want to talk to me or be friends with me.

I'm half european and half pacific islander, i really look like a mutt but I like it.

The Japanese exchange students around my University really dont talk to anyone else besides Asian looking people I have no clue why and they seem to hesitate when I talk to them.

my friend told me that I should loose some weight and be a size ZERO before I go there bec since most girls there are REALLY THIN, and they WOULD make fun of me and I'm just average size 5'2 120pds.

I'm goin to Japan bec I'd really like to experience something different beyond the culture and soceity that I am used to.

Do you think they'd really make fun of me or look at me like I'm a weird creature?

I don't think you have much to worry about.  Japanese people can be just as friendly as any other nationality, if not more.  I'm sure you'll meet some good people if you make the effort.

Japanese are not so open minded than other countries, but it does not mean that they are mean. Maybe you need time to get familiar with them but Japan is the best choice if you are worried what you look like, cos they are very gentle people, I believe.

Don't agonize over things you can't or shouldn't be changing. Just be yourself and try to be confident and friendly. I'm sure some people will hassle you, which has absolutely nothing to do with nationality (face it, there are jerks everywhere on the planet), and others will befriend you. Take it in stride and remember the reason you're taking this trip.

Whatever, the people who'd judge aren't people whose opinions should matter to you. Be happy and interested, those who are the same with share and others can go their own way.

One generation of Orientals would hesitate wondering if you were one of THEIR "mutts" (your word, not mine!) cause post-war so many women had white GI's kids and those were definitely looked down on over there. Hopefully, those days are gone. They should be but some might hold those attitudes over if they were raised on them.

About your size - don't diet to match, be exotic and new. Lots of guys appreciate a healthy gal with curves in the right places! But also, shop thoroughly before you go cause you might not be able to get your own shoe size, bra if you're a C cup, etc over there.
