  1. To me, Summer consists of June, July and August.

  2. I found an answer for you (careful what you ask for :-)

Most people consider the first day of summer to be the Summer Solstice which is this year at 7:59 p.m. EDT on June 20. This is because, astronomically, the sun will be directly overhead of the Tropic of Cancer; the northern-most point the sun will be directly overhead during any particular year.

As the earth rotates around the sun, at different times of the year the sun will be situated directly overhead at mid-day. The day the sun is straight up at noon over the Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn (23.5 degrees N and S latitude) are the summer and winter solstices, respectively. The Autumnal (Fall) Equinox is the day the sun is again highest in the sky at noon over the equator as the apex progresses south.

Many refer to Astronomical Summer on June 20, as the first "official" day of summer. Most meteorologists will argue that summer has been well under way by then and they have been enjoying at least three weeks- - if not longer-- of "summer" already.

Meteorologists observe seasons over different time periods. Meteorological summer begins on June 1, fall begins September 1 and winter begins December 1.

There are a couple of very important reasons why this is the case. The most important is for climate record-keeping. Climatologists require set time periods to calculate averages and do seasonal comparisons over the years. Astronomical dates will fall on different days depending on the year and keeping seasonal climate records based on those dates would be confusing and inaccurate.

A second reason is that weather-wise, it makes more sense around the globe. For example, much of the northern hemisphere is entrenched in summer weather by June 1 and winter weather on December 1.

In fall, the heat of the summer is waning by September 1 and by March 1, spring, mild surges of air from the south are becoming a regular occurrence and the seasonal severe weather threats grows.

The National Weather Service outlook for this summer is calling for warmer and drier than normal temperatures across much of the West and west-central and south-central Plains states. The rest of the country will likely see an average summer, temperature-wise.

  3. Am I the only one burning in this heat? Definitely SUMMER!

  4. Northern Hemisphere Summer, Southern Hemisphere Winter. And it doesn't have to do with temperature, it has to do with our orbit around the sun.  There is snow year round at high enough elevations even at the equator.

  5. Summer.

  6. I'VE SEEN IT SNOW IN JUNE. DOES THAT MEAN JUNE COULD BE WINTER FALL SPRING SUMMER. HOWDY DOODY.

  7. Well look at it this way...we "spring forward" in April to go into daylight savings time. Does that help?

  8. get a life

  9. June is split between. split at the 21st.

But depending on where you live you might think it is all summer.

  10. June is split between spring and summer. June 1 through 21 is spring in the northern hemisphere (fall in the southern) june 22 through 30 is summer in the northern hemisphere (winter in the southern)

  11. summer

  12. definatley summer. the first day of summer is june 21st

  13. I would consider June summer. 1 reason is because school is let out for the summer. Another is because it gets too hot a lot of times in June. Technically though, about 2/3 of June is spring and about 1/3 is summer.
