Question:

Summer possibilities?

This summer (2008) will be the summer before my senior year. I would like to volunteer and prepare myself for college and scholarship apps. Here are my opportunities:

1. Missions trip in Cambodia

2. Church camp counselor (volunteer or paid)

3. Grocery store employee

4. Hospital Volunteer

I'm wondering if I could fit it all in or maybe a combination. What do you think would be best?

  1. Hospital Volunteer sounds like it will be the most helpful towards the whole college situation. Animal shelter's will prepare you well for college and such. It really helps you understand people AND animals to a really long extent. You have to be able to read people and animals to get a feel for what they do. You'll learn excellent people skills. Grocery store employee would just be a waste of time, as stated above. Unless you either want to mop for a living or want to go into accounting or business, it's just going to be a waste of time. The Missions Trip in Cambodia sounds pretty well fit for the spotlight.

I think you've got the right idea. There are so many things that you could do. What are you planning on your major being?

Check around your local area for possible volunteer jobs. If you are a responsible teen, then many places will be happy to have you around. Many establishments will take all the help they can get.

    Good luck! ^_^

    Merry meet, my friend.

  2. With as much as your planning, grocery store employee seems like a waste of time. Working is great, but all your other activities would weigh down a college application essay as it is.

Unless of course you're planning a business degree...

  3. I am a hospital volunteer, so I am totally like go for it but if you don't really want to go into medical field then i would try something you really like.  in my hospital, they require you to do the summer program before allowing you to volunteer during the school year.

the mission trip in Cambodia sounds fun but i really depend on how long is it.  because if it take up the whole summer, you won't be able to do other activities.

church camp sound great, i mean like the people have fun and so will you.  if you are a paid camp counselor then you get a great working experiences.  if you are a volunteer then you get credit to college.  so other ways they are good for college

a grocery store employee is a good idea, if you can't fit it into your schedule over the summer then during school year is good too but i heard that if you have a job and a bank account when the college look at that then you get less money from the government.  so idk it's up to you.

what i would do is be a hospital volunteer but tell them that you need to go to missions trip i mean it's can't be that long.  while you are a volunteer you can be a grocery store employee and a counselor.  i think you are work it all out.

    i hope i help  :)
