I'm a college swimmer, so I have a good idea about the practices for the older groups of kids. however, i find it hard creating fun practices that are good for swimmers 12 and under. Any suggestions??

  1. Do kicking, blowing bubbles,  treading and singing a kid's song, pushing off the wall, knee dive,  have races, etc. Have fun with it. Dont wear a speedo in front of the little kids.

  2. For like learn how to swim or summer/rec league?

either way maybe a once a week "game day" with sharks and minnows, and other games

also, before each practice you could do swimming trivia about strokes and technique and etiquette and give candy out and stuff, i  no when I was little we did that and i was never late and never wanted to miss a day! also for the little kids with less endurance , do sprints on long sendoffs or critique them at each wall so they have more rest.

    dont forget plenty of compliments!!

(i agree with the no speedo in front of lil kids thing, boardshorts please unless your actually swimming!)lol

  3. have races, play games, say every friday is "game day" swim for 30 minuate and play some games "sharks and minos, marko polo, etc) have a race everyday kids love to be competetive (how far can you you go in streamline, how long can you hold your breath) play trivia games while treading water about the rules but throw in some random general knowlege questions and through a ball ba. like the other said have fun with it.

  4. biggest hint: if you have fun they'll have fun !!!!

NEVER look bored when your coaching ... it causes the kids to be grumpy and bored too !

show them how to dive right by making up stories ... the possibilities are endless.

    -doing cannonballs

-having them do relays to practice dives

    -sharks and minnows

JUST be creative and have FUN!!

  5. WATER POLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yea, i'm 14, but once a month or so my team plays water polo.
