I've been into running for 3 years now and I'm a freshman in highschool. I have also had an intnterst in swimming, but I've never tried it competitively before. So, this summer I am going to do a club swim team at night, mon-fri. I will also do cross country camp in the morning, mon & tues, thurs. & fri. Do you think this would be too much or does it sound good? Also, I am undecided about whether to do cross country or swimming in the fall. If I did cross country, would the extra swimming be beneficial?

  1. lol sounds like me i'm in 10th grade my swim schedule is also mon-fri

just so ya know xc works you out better so ya!

  2. i think you should do swimming cause it is more fun and easier to breathe andmore relaxed

  3. Try modifying your workout here, although you have set aside Sat/Sun as your rest day, I think it is a bit hectic for me.

Combining cross country (admittedly I am no expert in this area) and swimming is a very good exercise.  Swimming improves cardiovascular health, has little impact in your joints (unlike running) and at the same time, tones your muscles.  Good luck.

  4. you should do both... the runnibng will benefit the swimming and the swimming will benefit the running... in the fall with school and everything... do cross country and when thats over get into the swimming season....

  5. It shouldn't be too much.  Just be sure to communicate with your coaches about any aches and pains you experience.  The running and the swimming will complement each other nicely.

As for the fall - either way you'll be in a good position.  If you choose swimming the summer will have provided (hopefully) a good technique and yardage base to build off of while the running provides good leg strength and a certain mental toughness.  If you decide to run, then the swimming will have dramatically helped your conditioning (up to 40% more than running alone).

    Good luck and happy training.

  6. it is not the best for you nees if you do it at fast pace. b/c runing is alredy bad for your nees and swimming will billed up you mucels but i can garenty if you do this you will stop after a week b/c you will not be able to move but i would say keep it up and you will get the hang of it. b/c i play fast pitch and i am a swimmer but luck with trying to cope with such a big scegual!
