Summer transfer window review – Assessing the transfer window activity: English Premier League (Part 4)
In this part of our features series on the summer transfer window activity of different clubs in the English Premier League, we take a look at the English champions Manchester United and their summer transfer window performance
along with Newcastle United and Norwich City...
Manchester United
Harry Redknapp recently concluded that Manchester United had done the best business in the summer transfer window up till now and it is really hard to contest that claim given that the Red Devils had sealed up all of their transfer
targets even before their pre-season tour to U.S.A kicked off in the early weeks of July, 2011. United sealed up http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in the race to sign the young Englishman. Jones
was by Manchester United to provide cover to the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 in central defence.
At the back, Manchester United have already replaced their retired goalkeeping hero Edwin Van der Sar with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denmark-c2884. Furthermore,
United piped http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-Sneijder-c36799 despite the Scotsman’s
claims that the Red Devils are not interested in him. Ferguson needs to add strength to his midfield department as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Owen-Hargreaves-c28918 was not offered another contract by the Mancunian giants.
Newcastle United
Newcastle desperately need a new striker in order to make an impact in the upcoming English Premier League season. After parting ways with Andy Carroll in the January transfer window, the best part of the Englishman’s 35 million
pound fee is still unspent at Saint James’ Park. It will be interesting to see how Newcastle United go about their business in the month of August but they will be keen to hold onto the likes of Joey Barton and Cheik Tiote.
The Magpies parted ways with Kevin Nolan at the start of the summer and they have also failed to convince Jose Enrique to sign a new contract with them. Additionally, Newcastle also need to bolster their central defence as exhibited
by their end-of-the-season form last term when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sol-Campbell-c33757 and co. made school boy errors at the back. Things look ominous for Newcastle at the moment but they should improve as the summer transfer window progresses onwards into its final month.
Norwich City
The Canaries have gone about their business in the summer transfer window in an ordinary yet silent manner. However they do need a goalkeeper to help them out when they take on the big boys come the new season. The newly promoted
club needs to dip into the summer transfer window and invest in two positions, a goalkeeper and a central defender. Mathew Upson might be a promising target for Norwich after he was released as a free agent by West Ham United; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-c31222 Green is another West
Ham player who might interest the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Canaries-c38723.
Norwich would do well to secure the likes of Macheda or Lansbury on loan too given the fact that they made it to the English Premier League courtesy of some brilliant performances from last season’s on-loan players such as Henri
Lansbury and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dani-c9867 Pacheco.
