Sun Belt Conference names Lady Topper Jordyn Skinner Player of the Year
Jordyn Skinner, the talented outside hitter of Western Kentucky University women’s volleyball team has been named the Player of the Year by the Sun Belt Conference. The Lady Hill Toppers had a successful season and accumulated 28 victories at the expense
of only three matches, making it overall record of 28-3 and their hard work has been acknowledged by the Sun Belt Conference.
The Sun Belt Conference declared its 2011 volleyball awards on Wednesday, November 16, where the following players were given with different awards:
Junior outside hitter Jordyn Skinner - The SBC Player of the Year Sophomore libero Ashley Potts - SBC Defensive Player of the Year Senior Tiffany Elmore – All SBC honour (3rd time) Sophomore Melanie Stutsman - All SBC honour (2nd time) Senior Lindsay Williams - All SBC honour (2nd time)
A total of 12 coaches of the Sun Belt Volleyball League were involved in voting for these SBC awards. The award ceremony was held at the conference championship banquet in Miami.
The Grand Rapids, Michigan native, Skinner proved to be one of the top all-around players in the league and showcased her wonderful skills in attack and defence. She emerged as the only SBC player to rank among the top 10 in kills, digs and service aces.
Skinner played a big role in leading her team to a better position on the chart. She recorded 18 double-doubles in the regular season. She went into double-digit kills in 26 matches and notched double-digit digs in 21 matches. Overall, Skinner contributed
401 kills, 361 digs, and 77 blocks to WKU in the year 2011.
Skinner has settled for the accolade since Megan Argabright earned the distinction in 2006. Additionally, she was named the National Player of the Week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), last month. Also, she clinched the SBC Player of
the Week and Defensive Player of the Week award on two separate occasions.
