Sun City resort Africa; The Lost City Golf Course
Welcome to the barren bunkers, downhill slopes, elevated tees and 38 crocodiles. This is the Lost City Golf club located in the heart of Sun City. The beautifully architecture course was established in 1992 course. It is set on the hills with the Pilanesberg Mountains in the back. The Lost City Golf club is situated just next to the Gary Player Country Club. The beautiful African terrain course was polished out of an undulating rocky ridge which itself was a big challenge. The course was designed by Gary Player and according to him this golf course is his most amazing creation.
The beauty of the golf course is astounding. It has big green fairways which give a sudden, dramatic effect to the bushvelds at the back. This adds to the mystery of the origin. Another feature of the course is barren bunkers which gives an intriguing effect to the entire course. What can be more exotic than having the entire African culture at the back?
Now discussing the technical features of the 18 hole desert style golf course. The course covers an area of massive 100 hectares with 28000 squares meters of water features. It is a regular 72 par course but what mesmerizes the players to play in it is its flexibility. It has 5953 meters in the forward tee and 6983 meters in the back tee. The club house on the course has been modelled on the structure of an ancient city of Zimbabwe. It seems as if one is residing on the ruins of the area and this is what that sets the magic. The mountains deserts and other pieces of vegetation have their own impact.
What players need to be careful is the wildlife residing in the water hazards. The first 13 holes are accompanied by crocodiles and if the ball lands in the watery terrain then it will be preferred not to look for it. The back 9 holes are located on the mountainous terrain. To make it more challenging there is a water hazard located every place next to the sand dunes. The golfer needs to be way too accurate to play on tilted degrees like these. What separates the golfers from the untamed wild animals of the African bushvelds is a cane fence.
Playing the first nine holes down the hill is exotic but coming to the back nine seems like a safari trip. Other then the famous 13th hole filled by fierce 38 crocodiles, the 11th, 14th 15th and the 16th hole is themselves another challenge. With elevated tees and downhill sloping, one can see 9 bunkers and water hazards guarding the hole.
As mentioned before the club house of the course is more like some Zimbabwe ruin, so after one had enough with the crocodiles an amazing African food is awaiting in the crocodile lounge. Free golf lessons are complimentary for the tourists so if you don’t know what golf is, you can always learn it with the crocodiles here.
The sad part of this club is that it has never hosted any championship although the neighbour Gary Country Club has been a host to the PGA tournaments. The reason which one can think of to such a tragedy is the aversive behaviour of the players to stay away from the troubles of animal bites. After all Brittany Lang can afford to get a tan in the scorching heat of Africa but not lose her $5 million insured leg as a crocodile dinner. Moral of the story is that Lost City Golf Course is the magnificent masterpiece ever.
