Sun Jae Jang wins third stage as Muradjan Halmuratov takes overall lead in Tour of China 2011
Korea team’s Sun Jae Jang showed a good performance in the third stage of Tour of China 2011 on Monday, September 12. Muradjan Halmuratov takes the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The race started in Baoji and finished in Feng Country. The second stage winner Adrian Gjolberg was unable to hold his lead and took 49th place with a difference of 4 minutes and 6 seconds.
With few kilometres to go, the three cyclists managed to build a gap including, Pablo Lechuga Rodriguez (Andalucia Caja Granada), Meiyin Wang (People's Republic of China) and Ho Ting Kwok (Hong Kong, China).
All of them worked well together and gained a lead of a few seconds over the peloton, while Ho Ting Kwok and Meiyin Wang launched an attacked but failed. Rodriguez gained maximum points to take the first intermediate sprint of the stage.
However, in the climb Rodriguez also took part but Vladimir Efimkin and Mizbani Iranagh increased their pace and got away. In the final kilometres, Iranagh showed his tremendous skill and took 10 points ahead of the other cyclists.
In the final few kilometres, the three cyclists including Christer Rake, Jae Jang and Tanner Putt were able to get away but Jae Jang launched an attacked and crossed the finish line without any difficulty.
He took a total of 2 hours, 37 minutes and 7 seconds to cover the distance of 112 kilometres while Serov was in second and Rake finished third with the same timing of Jang. 19 cyclists crossed the final line with the same timing of Jang while Arian Oosthoek
tried his best to catch him but failed and took 20th place with a difference of 6 seconds.
Giant Kenda Cycling team’s Muradjan Halmuratov took the overall standing with a timing of 9 hours, 16 minutes and 34 seconds.
The stage winner Jang was runner-up with 3 minutes and 27 seconds while Alexander Serov (Russian Federation) was in third place with 3 minutes and 31 seconds down to Halmuratov.
After one day of rest the next stage will start in Mianyang and finish in Suining as all the riders will cover the distance of 214.6 kilometres.
