Sun Yang breaks World record of Men’s 1500m freestyle – London Olympic Games
World champion of the distant freestyle discipline, Sun Yang of China broke the world record of Men’s 1500m freestyle on eighth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Saturday, August 4.
The 20-year-old Yang showed no mercy to his challengers as he remained considerably ahead over them from the start and improved his own world mark of the 1500m discipline by an aggressive margin of three seconds.
The Chinese veteran devastated hopes of his opponents in the thirty-lap freestyle discipline and snared gold medal of the race in a world record time of 14 minutes and 31.02 seconds.
His marvellous place placed him almost 8.50 seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Ryan Cochrane of Canada, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 14 minutes and 39.63 seconds.
The Canadian swimmer was followed by defending champion, Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia, who stayed nearly 0.70 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 14 minutes and 40.31 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Park Taehwan of Korea, who remained nearly 10 seconds apart and made his way to the finishing blockade in a time of 14 minutes and 50.61 seconds.
The Korean swimmer was trailed by Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy, who was one and a half body length behind and tapped the wall with a timing of 14 minutes and 51.92 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth finest spot of the race was secured by Connor Jaeger of USA, who was 1.07 seconds apart and hit the wall with an effort of 14 minutes and 52.99 seconds.
The American swimmer remained 1.33 seconds ahead of Mateusz Sawrymowicz of Poland, who ended his swim in eighth place by clocking a time of 14 minutes and 54.32 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was gained by Daniel Fogg of Great Britain, who finished his race in a time of 15 minutes and 00.76 seconds.
Yang was extremely happy with his record-improving performance in his pet event at prize ceremony of the swim.
