Sun Yang clinches Men’s 200m freestyle crown: Day one – 2011 Chinese Long Course Nationals
China’s Sun Yang produced a wonderful splash on day one of the 2011 Chinese Long Course Nationals in Rizhao, China, on Thursday, September 22. The session of the meet organised several races.
Sun Yang won the gold medal in Men’s 200m freestyle event, while Li Xuanxu secured golden crown in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley race. Fu Yuanhui earned gold title in the Women’s 100m back-stroke event.
Firstly, Sun Yang hit the finishing wall in 1 minute and 45.53 seconds to win gold medal on the podium. The effort of Yang was short of his year’s best time of 1 minute and 44.99 seconds. More importantly, Sun Yang moved to Fifth place in the world rankings
of swimming.
While speaking about her swim to Xinhua news agency, Yang stated, “I have not trained systematically since the worlds. I'm happy with the results, no matter it's good or bad. I hope I can start my steps toward the London Olympic Games through this
meet.”
Meanwhile, Li Yunqi secured silver medal on the podium by posting a winning time of 1 minute and 47.71 seconds. On the other hand, Zhang Zhongchao captured bronze medal on the podium by submitting an impressive time of 1 minute and 48.75 seconds.
Then, the Women’s Individual Medley crown was taken over by Li Xuanxu with an impressive mark of 4 minutes and 37.48 seconds. In the corresponding race, Jiao Liuyang grabbed silver with a time of 4 minutes and 39.72 seconds, whereas, Zhu Xiaoya won bronze
medal in a time of 4 minutes and 39.83 seconds.
Fu Yuanhui won the Women’s 100m back-stroke crown with a victorious mark of 1 minute and 00.68 seconds. Zhao Yanxin was placed second with a time of 1 minute and 00.70 seconds, while Zhao Jing earned bronze spot on the podium in 1 minute and 00.73 seconds.
All swimmers of the meet took a huge round of applause from the crowd due to their impressive swims, while the victorious athletes were awarded accolades after the session’s completion.
